I'd say he was a narcissistic megalomaniac.
Diagnostic Criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder
A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
4. requires excessive admiration
5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
7. lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes
Yup, sounds like the old Judge to me.

Just to say hi
by fullofdoubtnow inhi, i am a friend of dedpoet, i think he may have posted about me occasionally, and he has kindly allowed me to join the forum from his pc as i do not have internet access at home.
i have known trev (dedpoet) since he first joined the same congregation as me 14 years ago, and we have always been friends.
i was very sad when he left us some years ago, but have maintained contact with him, something that has got me in trouble with the elders just lately now he is disassociated.

Welcome fullofdoubtnow! So nice to have you here. What you're feeling is understandable. The uncertainty of life after jw's is sometimes overwhelming. I disassociated in August and am adjusting to my new life. Some days it's not easy as there are feelings of anger, grief and betrayal that surge through my body, knowing I've given up so much time and energy to an organization that didn't have my best interests at heart. Yet, my life is happier now that it ever was. I have the hope of a life that is mine to live. A life that is full of possibility. And that, my friend, is worth any current angst I feel.
Please keep writing here. This is a great forum. Lots of sincere support. We're listening.

What's with my Mom and the NWT?
by Ingenuous inbefore i left the org, i decided to start doing my personal bible reading in a translation other than the nwt.
my mother seemed bothered by this, wanting to know why i didn't want to use the nwt, describing why she greatly preferred it to other translations, and generally adopting a worried look whenever i mentioned the topic.
i talked to her this morning and she turned the conversation into a q&a session on a bible i was looking for in a local bookstore.

When I told my Mom I was disassociating the first question she asked was, "Are you still using the NWT?" Crazy! And this from a woman who refused to study with the dubs unless she could use her Catholic Knox version.

Why don't witnesses celebrate their Baptismal Anniversary?
by JH in.
they celebrate their wedding anniversaries, so since baptism is even more important than marriage,"says the watchtower", why don't they celebrate it?
not that i would celebrate it though....

My understanding is that it would bring "too much attention" to the individual, where the dubs insist on their glory going to Jehovah. Ya, whatever.

Welcome Daniel-P. I applaud your courage for taking this first step. I admire you for being willing to open yourself up and share your experience with us. This is a great group here. This forum has been instrumental in my healing process after I disassociated back in August. The doubts, the confusion, the anxiety you're feeling are all normal reactions to the cognitive dissonance you've had to contend with for so long.
Continue to share, at your own pace, and know that we're listening.

Theocratic Ministry School Instructions for 2006
by TheListener infrom the october 2006 km [i put .... where i left out some text]:
during 2006 the following will be the arrangements for conducting the theocratic ministry school.
source material: new world translation of the holy scriptures (bi12), the watchtower (w), benefit from theocratic ministry school education (be), "all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial" (1990 edition) (si), and reasoning from the scriptures (1989 edition) (rs).

Gopher, you said:
"Serious question -- Does this mean the school overseer won't say whether the student gets a "G", "I" or "W" for their counsel points? Do they still give "G", "I" and "W" marks on the counsel slip to determine whether the student can move on to the next point?"
They revamped the TMS a few years ago so there is no more "negative counsel" given from the platform. They wanted to keep things "positive" feeling that many of the dubs were not in the school because they were nervous enough giving their talks but then to have the counsel was intimidating so they stopped it.
Now they have the "Benefit from Theocratic Education" book which you bring to every meeting and after the meeting when you did your talk you sit down with the School overseer and he privately tells you how you did and if there's anything to work on.

trouble making real friends
by dezpbem inwe push people away and keep them at a distance out of fear.
fear of getting close again.
many ex-jw's have an odd habit of pushing people away.

I too am finding it challenging to trust people or not judge them. It's still difficult to not go to someone's house and peruse their dvd or cd collection without having the judgment voice come up. Or to really open up and let myself be vulnerable with what I'm feeling or what I'm experiencing in my life right now. There's this underlying fear of being judged and rejected. As jw's we were taught to judge and expect to be judged. It's really hard to override that patterning. I'm learning though that there are some great and wonderful people on this planet. If I could just get out of my own way, I'm sure I'd connect with many of them.
